What a God, What a God

If you listen to contemporary Christian music (CCM) or attend an ARC church (no shade but IYKYK), you have definitely heard the song, “What a God,” by SEU Worship. I must admit I am the first to ugly cry while belting out, “WHAT A GOD! WHAT A GOD!” However, I can’t help but wonder if we’re all screeching out a lie while singing:
If the highest place I reach is at Your feet, then I've done it all.If the best thing that I've seen is Your glory, then I've seen it all.Your love has changed my life, forever satisfied.God, You are my everything.
It reminds me of when Maverick City had us singing to be tried by fire and purified, but when life started life-ing, we removed the song from our playlist and wanted to fight Chandler Moore.
I’ve been studying Exodus and I’m so fascinated by Moses and the Israelites. No judgment at all that an 11-14 day journey took them 40 years! I’ve been tussling with the Lord about my purpose for 25 years now.
While reading Exodus 6, The Lord slapped me with His sandal (as He does multiple times a day). In the very first verse of this chapter, The Lord comes in hot giving Moses very clear instructions on how He’s going to do His big one for His people! He tells Moses that Pharaoh is going to let the people go and He then confirms His promise with the statement, “I am the Lord.” This stopped me in my tracks! Two quotes that I live by are “The God you see is the God you get.” (Dr. Dharius Daniels) and “What we think about God is the most important thing about us.” (Oswald Chambers). I took a moment to ask myself, “Who is the Lord?” AND “Does my life reflect who He is?” Then, I had to gently close my dilapidated Amplified Bible and slide down the wall. When I finally came to, I noticed that throughout the chapter, “I am the Lord” is repeated 2 more times, not as gentle reminders of who He is but declarative statements of His power to do what He promised.
Regardless of how many times the Lord affirmed the Israelites, they chose to stay in their feelings. No shade to them at all because I can relate. However, after reading chapter 6, I decided that the next chapters of my life will be live footage of the Lord’s faithfulness.
The Lord laid out His plans to Moses and the Israelites. Though they struggled to hold up their part of the deal, eventually the Israelites reached the promised land.
Here’s how I’m going to stop lying to myself and to God and reach my promised land.
Reaching His feet requires daily, intentional pursuit—not perfect or performative, but purposeful.
Seeing His glory requires full obedience and surrender—a moment by moment choice to let the Lord be the Lord.
These are the steps to have a changed life that I’ll be forever satisfied with.
The next time I hear, “Who thought I'd find You at the lowest place..” I will clear my throat, settle into the alto section and confidently sing knowing that the same God who led the Israelites also leads me.
What a God, what a God.
